James advises and appears in relation to all litigious and commercial aspects of mining and infrastructure tenure in Western Australia. This includes the acquisition and sale of mining tenements and projects, due diligence, the grant of mining and infrastructure tenure, native title, freedom of information applications, access agreements, joint ventures, farm-in agreements, split commodity agreements, royalty agreements and resource company acquisitions. He also appears regularly in the Western Australian Warden’s Court and appears in the Supreme Court of Western Australia and Court of Appeal in relation to forfeiture applications, tenement applications and other mining and infrastructure tenure applications, disputes, appeals and judicial reviews.

 

He is a co-author of the fifth edition of Hunt on Mining Law of Western Australia that was launched by the Premier of Western Australia, the Hon Colin Barnett, in October 2015 and is available from the publisher Federation Press at their website.

 

James has been recognised by Doyles as a Energy & Resources Rising Star for Australia in 2016.

James is a member of the Western Australian Committee of AMPLA – The Resources and Energy Law Association and has published various articles in the Australian Resources & Energy Law Journal.
